On any given day, if I go more than 6 hours without eating, my hanger levels become a REAL struggle. Let’s just say I am no longer my best self when my blood sugar runs low. My fruits of the spirit wither away every moment I go without food from that point forward. Hard to believe that fasting is not my thing right?! At least not yet it isn’t. Since I get hangry semi regularly, my fiancé has quickly learned that trail mix will fix me right up until the next meal! I love him for knowing how to make me feel better!
Last week, for the first time ever, I experienced a hanger from a different point of view. I was craving the Word of God. I had always heard the term “Daily Bread” and I have been taught to read the Bible daily, but my habits of daily reading have been sub par in the past. For slightly over 3 weeks, I have kept myself on track of reading 2 chapters of Psalms a day. If I miss a day or two, I catch myself up by reading the chapters I missed. Last week, when I missed two days in a row, I felt mood change, and not in a positive way. The easiest way for me to describe it was that I felt hangry, but I wasn’t hungry. I NEEDED God. I thought to myself, I know I will be in a better mood if I sit down and read my Bible. So I did just that! I was missing God’s word. I wasn’t grounded in the truth that day, and it’s so easy to get distracted from God’s mission. I am grateful that I am able to recognize when I am feeling down, that I need God to lift me up! What a blessing that was to experience the hunger for God!
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” – Matthew 4:4
Food is not enough. Water is not enough. Shelter is not enough. God gives us everything that we need, and what we need most is to be with Him everyday!
When it comes to the essentials of life, God is at the top. When in comes to your wardrobe essentials, I have a few things to add to your list!
Number 1: The structured white blouse
I have been on the hunt for the perfect white blouse since I have been a working girl, and boy was it hard. For a busty gal such as myself, finding a blouse that didn’t pull at my chest was next to impossible without sizing up so much that the shirt would now be too boxy everywhere else. Next challenge was that all white shirts seem to be two see-through. Lastly, I wanted a white blouse with a little flare- classic but with a twist, but most white shirts seemed BORING. Until now! I bought this 1. State blouse from Nordstrom for $79 over the summer, and I have been wearing it on repeat this fall! I love that this blouse doesn’t have a collar, and instead it has a V neckline and illusion buttons down the front. The material is thick enough that I don’t need to layer underneath it AND the bell sleeve adds that modern touch I’ve been looking for!
Number 2: A Medium Wash Pair of Denim
I’m sure you all own a pair of black and dark wash skinnies in your wardrobe, but do you own the perfect true blue pair? A medium wash pair of jeans has been my go-to this season! I purchased these crop-flare jeans by Halogen from Nordstrom during the Anniversary Sale in Petite, and they hit me at the perfect spot at my ankle. I love the medium wash jeans paired with a white blouse because it makes me feel nostalgic for that 90’s Gap Girl look my mom was so fond of!
Number 3: White Footwear
I’ve shared about this already on the blog, but white footwear is alive and well! I’m partial to a decorative mule for the season, especially when I am in heels everyday at work. Fancy flats make my day off that much more fun! Also, this pair by Jeffrey Campbell is on sale for $83!
