CHRISTMAS IS HERE! Well, it’s actually 23 days away, but the season is in full swing! My miniature Christmas tree is up in my apartment, my gift shopping as begun, and I have watched a holiday movie everyday for the last five days. Before I continue on my Christmas-loving rant, I want to recap my blessings on Thanksgiving! Last minute, my dad was called into work, so my mom, sister and I drove to Julian in San Diego for our Thanksgiving meal, sadly without the man of the family. Everyone was bummed, especially my dad that we couldn’t have our Thanksgiving meal together. However, it dawned on me that through all the financial hardships we have had, we are blessed that he is able to support our family, and is proud to do so! When he got off of work, we played Monopoly while eating seconds of apple pie. Somehow I managed to purchase just one property from each color so that I monopolized the ability to gain a monopoly! It turned out to be a really beautiful Thanksgiving to remember.
As for my outfit, I knew we were going into the mountains, but it was WAY colder than I expected! My faux fur vest was surprisingly warm, but not quite warm enough. I have had this vest from BP at Nordstrom for three years, and every time I put it on, I forget how it exactly matches my hair color! With that much fur around the collar, I always throw my hair up and out of my face. My black lace dress is from the Daisy Shoppe, one of the first boutiques I started shopping at as a teenager. Because Thanksgiving is a perfect excuse to dress up, I wore my brown knee-high boots that have a four-inch heel! Shopping in my closet is something that I need to do more often, because I didn’t have to spend one penny on this outfit for Thanksgiving!
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Honestly, I don’t think I have learned the secret to being content in every situation. This Thanksgiving taught me to be more than Thankful, but also content. I know this sounds like the same thing, but I am thankful for all that I have, but find myself still sometimes wanting more! My most recent prayer is to be content with my blessings, which is the true meaning of being beyond Thankful.
