Fireworks- Matthew 5:16

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Well I love all holidays, but still… Independence Day holds a special place in my heart. This occasion is full of neighborhood parades, themed snacks, patriotic decorations, mouth-watering BBQ, all day sunshine, and festive outfits. Fireworks on the other hand are just now becoming an exciting part of this all day celebration after a somewhat traumatic incident in my childhood. I am being over-dramatic, but during a local firework’s show in Central California, a firework launched into the crowd 6 feet off the ground, 10 feet away from our family’s blanket. The sky went dark. The show ended early. My dad lost a shoe. Tragic. P.S. Nobody got hurt. However, it took me about 7 years to get over the fear of fireworks. I am fine now, but sparklers still scare me a little.
I have the most fun planning outfits for themed holidays. I had envisioned something red, white, and blue for the 4th (obvi), without being over the top. Themed, yet tasteful, not tacky. This Tart Jumpsuit from Nordstrom was the perfect answer to my outfit prayers. The material was lightweight and the crisscross in the back was just the detail I was looking for. Because I didn’t want to be too revealing, I chose to wear my navy star print bandeau top that I wear almost every year. Because I am petite, I wore a thin nude heel that would extend my height for an outfit that could be overpowering on a frame such as mine. Aviator sunglasses (Marc Jacobs) scream summer and I kept my jewelry to a minimum since the print on the jumpsuit was so bold. I am already planning next years outfit incase any good red, white, and blue goes on sale this week!

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
Fireworks on the Fourth of July are seen by everyone. When we allow God’s light to shine through us, everyone can see how our good works are glorifying our Father. We can each be that light in the sky on a daily basis, not just on holidays that include explosions of light. Be a firework who is on fire for Christ. Be bold in His name and shine bright!
Have a blessed week!
