Freedom, Photography, and the Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July week! Week of the 4th? Independence Day… week? There is no easy way to say enjoy your 3 day, ‘Merica filled, sparkler scare, ‘suns-out-buns-out’ weekend. This holiday is extra special this year because I was fortunate enough to capture these moments with a photographer, Matt Heisler. Matt has a fancy shmancy camera that is not an iPhone and not to mention, some serious talent and skills. The Dana Point Harbor was a picture perfect backdrop for a 4th of July inspired afternoon. This cobalt blue dress with cut-outs was not only patriotic, but a shocking $9.99 from Urban Outfitters. I’ll salute to that!

It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows.  For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom.
Galatians 5:13-14
Freedom in today’s society is a complicated. Should we be allowed to do what we want, when we want, all the time and if so, according to whose measures? My lovely friend Kristen is reading a book called “The Reason for God,” by Timothy Keller and the author made the analogy of a fish out of water. A fish is restricted to living in water, however, if it were to live on land, it wouldn’t survive. The very thing restricting the fish, keeps the fish alive. The same goes for our relationship with Jesus. Keller states, “The love of Christ constrains. Once you realize how Jesus changed for you and gave himself for you, you aren’t afraid of giving up your freedom and therefore finding your freedom in him.” Well said Keller. Well said.
Have a freeing week!
